It makes most people happy to see a young couple in love but not Arnold and Maria. The divorced parents of Patrick have clashed over their 21-year-old son’s growing relationship with Miley, 22.
A Schwarzenegger family friend tells HollywoodLife.com, “Miley and Patrick’s relationship is causing a lot of tension in his family. It’s creating a fissure in Arnold and Maria’s already tense relationship — and it’s affecting all of their children"
Maria has made it clear to Patrick that she does not approve of his relationship with Miley or her out of control behavior. Unfortunately for the 59-year-old NBC News correspondent, her objection to the relationship only seems to be fanning Patrick’s flames of desire.
On the other hand, his father, Arnold, 67, a notorious ladies man in his own right, has approved of the relationship.
“Arnold loves that Patrick is dating Miley,” continues the source. “He’s been showing her off around Ketchum [Idaho] to all his friends.”
Arnold took Miley, Patrick and a few friends to one of his favorite breakfast restaurants in town, The Kneadery, on Dec. 28.
“Arnold loves being in the spotlight and is really enjoying all the attention Patrick’s relationship with Miley is getting,” says the friend. “He’s proud of Patrick for dating such a sought after girl like Miley. He compares it to dating Madonna at the peak of her fame.”
Unfortunately, Arnold’s acceptance of Miley has only created more tension between him and Maria, who disapproves of the relationship.
“Arnold is his own man and makes his own decisions. He told Maria to relax and let the boy be a boy, which didn’t go over well with her at all. She hates the whole circus that surrounds Miley and it upsets her the Arnold is okay with it.”
