"FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio - A woman and her three grandchildren were found dead among the debris from a house fire in Fayette County early Friday.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the fire was reported in the 5000 block of Inskeep Road at about 4 a.m.

The sheriff's office confirmed to NBC4 that a woman and her three grandchildren died in the fire.

The victims were identified as 60-year-old Terry Harris, 14-year-old Kenyon Harris, 11-year-old Broderick Harris, and 9-year-old Braylon Harris.

The parents of the children lived two houses away, and were on the scene within minutes.

The children wanted to spend Christmas with their grandmother so she wouldn't be alone, fire officials said.

"We've had tragic fires, but this is unfortunately for this time the most tragic we have to deal with it. It's a very sad event," said Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

Firefighters said they haven't found any smoke detectors at this point.

Investigators said Terry's body was found close to the front door.

"Grandma was close to the front door. The other children were behind her and so we're just assuming that she was by the front door, that she was trying to corral the children to help them get out," Stanforth said.

The boys attended Washington Court House City Schools. District officials said counselors will be on hand at Liberty Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene, and will provide counseling support, as well as hotel lodging for immediate family members.

The Red Cross will work with the family over the next few weeks to support their needs.

Inskeep Road is closed at state Route 35 in Fayette County as a result".
